Erected in 1907 to honour the fallen of the Boer War (1899-1902). It’s a reminder of British colonialist rule. The ornate arch was hit by machine-gun fire during the rising. The names of 222 dead and battles are inscribed on the underside of this monument, and can be found at the top of Grafton Street.
