Daniel O’Connell campaigned for Catholic Emancipation, the right for Catholics to sit in Parliament in Westminster which was forbidden for over a 100 years. The street was named in his honour after the creation of the Irish Free State, his body is buried beneath a Round Tower at Glasnevin Cemetery Dublin, and his heart in Rome.

The O’Connell Monument is just beautiful, I love its detail, built to honour the great Catholic Emancipator.
