It starts at Blessington and leads south through the forest and woodlands taking in some spectacular scenery adjacent to the shoreline of Pollaphuca Reservoir, more commonly referred to as Blessington Lakes.

The Greenway commences at Avon Ri Activity center at the southern end of the town and weaves its way along the lake shores, crosses an ancient medieval Ringfort, uses the footpath along part of the N81 before turning back into the forest at Burgage Moyle Lane. It then crosses the Valleymount Road (R758) and makes its way to Russellstown Bay adjacent to Russborough House.

The Castle is thought to have built around Norman times adjacent to an ecclesiastical site and old mill. The Cross is on the site of the old graveyard. before the flooding of the valley, bodies were exhumed and brought to the new cemetery at Burgage, across the road from the Avon Ri entrance.

This greenway is work in progress as it recently secured over €5 million in funding.

Phase 1 linked Blessington to Russborough House and was opened by Leo Varadkar in 2014. Hopfully work will start in 2021 to complete the project, when finished this will give us 42.4 km of a walking and cycling route around the lakes.
